Eliminated Our

Reproductive Freedom

MAGA extremists in the Arizona Legislature waged war on women’s reproductive freedom by blocking efforts to overturn the state’s 1864 abortion ban. They passed an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest and introduced a bill that would charge women and their doctors with first-degree murder for conducting an abortion. Additionally, MAGA extremist and State Senator J.D. Mesnard co-leads the hate group responsible for overturning Roe v. Wade.

Undermined Workers’

Freedom to Negotiate

MAGA extremist Arizona legislators have moved repeatedly to lower workers’ wages and strip voters of their ability to pass local ordinances to raise wages and improve working conditions.

SOURCE

Put Our Schools

Under Threat

The Arizona Senate passed legislation that would make teachers pawns in right-wing culture wars and ban them from providing instruction on race-related issues.

SOURCE

Undercut Our

Right to Vote

MAGA extremist Arizona legislators advanced legislation to eliminate most vote-by-mail and early voting and ban voting centers, needlessly eliminating Arizonans’ easiest and most preferred voting methods. They also passed SCR 1044 to amend the state constitution and allow Supreme Court judges to serve indefinitely and avoid voter accountability for reinstating a Civil War-era abortion ban.

Targeted

Vulnerable Communities

MAGA extremist legislators passed HCR 2060, an anti-immigration bill, despite widespread opposition from business leaders, law enforcement, and civil rights advocates, who argue it will harm Arizona residents, exacerbate racial profiling, and strain state resources. They also passed legislation endangering transgender youth by banning gender-affirming care and policing what bathrooms they may use.

ATTEMPTED TO OVERTURN ELECTION RESULTS

Thirteen Arizona state legislators supported overturning results of the 2020 Presidential election.

  • On December 10, 2020, an amicus brief signed by 13 Arizona state legislators was filed in the Supreme Court of the United States supporting overturning the election results.
  • When that didn’t work, the Arizona Senate tried, but failed, to hold the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in contempt for refusing to comply with a subpoena for their voting machines so they could conduct an audit, even though no fraud was detected.

In 2022, legislators tried to grant themselves power to overturn election results.

  • In February of 2022, 14 legislators sponsored a bill that would have given the state legislature the right to overturn a certified election, including the following provisions:
    • Require that ballots for all future elections be counted by hand;
    • Mandate that votes· be cast only on Election Day;
    • Repeal laws allowing anyone to get an early ballot without a specific reason; and
    • Restrict people to voting only in their home precinct.

In April 2024, two state legislators were among the 11 fake electors indicted with attempting to overturn the 2020 Presidential election results.
